Dear Neighbors, The process of redistricting new legislative and congressional maps is underway! The goal is to make sure the new maps are fair and reflect the geographic, racial, ethnic, and economic diversity of Minnesota. Redistricting happens every decade after the U.S. Census is conducted. Legislators serving on the Redistricting Committee have used the latest and full Census data to draw maps that reflect how the population in Minnesota has changed. That means redrawing the boundaries of Minnesota’s eight congressional districts, 67 state senate districts, and 134 state house districts. At the end of the process, each one should contain approximately the same amount of people as other districts of its kind. You can see the proposed legislative maps here. The committee will be hearing from Minnesotans from every corner of the state. Eastsiders are encouraged to testify tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. at the remote hearing. You can watch the live stream here. If you would like to testify or submit written testimony, please email Nancy.conley@house.mn by 4:00 p.m. today. If you have any questions about the testifying process, please feel free to email me at rep.jay.xiong@house.mn or call 651-296-4201. It’s an honor to serve our Eastside neighbors at the State Capitol. In solidarity, Jay Xiong State Representative |
