Rep. Mueller Statement on $1.6 Billion Budget Surplus
SAINT PAUL, MN – Rep. Patricia Mueller, R-Austin, released the following statement regarding Minnesota Management & Budget’s announcement on Friday of a new state economic forecast which projects a $1.6 billion surplus for the 2022-2023 biennium:
"I am encouraged by this latest indication that our economy is on the road to recovery after the devastation caused to our families and businesses from a year of shutdowns and restrictions," said Mueller. "This surplus demonstrates how much Minnesotans are taxed. While our families watched their savings dwindle and our businesses struggled to stay afloat, the government did not lose any money. With a $1.6 billion surplus, it is shocking that Governor Walz continues to push for massive tax hikes on Minnesotans at every income level. Minnesota families and businesses have already tightened up their budgets, and it is time for government agencies to do the same, instead of penalizing them for making it through what for many was the most difficult year so far."
