SAINT PAUL, Minn. - On Friday, July 14, Governor Tim Walz and Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan announced several appointments. Representative María Isa Pérez-Vega (DFL- Saint Paul) was appointed as a member of the Capitol Area Community Vitality Task Force and released the following statement:
“I am honored to be appointed to this important task force. I look forward to working with my colleagues to develop recommendations that will help to make our community more vibrant and prosperous. Saint Paul has a long and rich history as a city of immigrants. From its early days as a fur trading post to its current status as the capital of Minnesota, Saint Paul has been a destination for people from all over the world.
The cultures of immigrant communities have played a vital role in making Saint Paul flourish. Our city's diverse music and food scene has made significant contributions to the city's culture and economy. We have hundreds of restaurants representing some of the best cuisines around the world, musical performances for all genres, and family-owned corner stores selling groceries from local farmers.
Our immigrant communities are an asset to the vitality of our city. The city's diverse food scene, festivals, and block parties are all a reflection of the richness of our immigrant communities. It is important to me to create opportunities for investment and change so our immigrant communities can thrive as well as all communities in Saint Paul.
I am committed to working hard to ensure the Capitol Area Community Vitality Task Force fosters our rich history and culture and ensures future generations have access to a city filled with diverse talents and services.”
