Representative Schultz’s Statement on Disappointing Budget Forecast Saint Paul, MN – Representative Isaac Schultz (R – Elmdale Township) had the following comments following today's release of MMB’s November budget forecast which can be viewed here. “Democrats in the Minnesota Legislature continue to display their economic illiteracy as they have turned our nearly 20 billion dollar surplus from last year into an additional 10 billion in new taxes and now a structural shortfall on the horizon in the next biennium. In other words, the chickens are about to come home to roost on the DFL’s unrestrained spending last session at the cost of all Minnesota taxpayers.” “With record high inflation obliterating family budgets at a cost of nearly $13,000 per year, (CBS News) this legislature should be focusing on meaningful tax relief. Instead, we have a 2.4 billion dollar surplus on the backs of hard-working Minnesotans that is already projected to be spent in the next budget.” “We must bring balance back to Minnesota with fiscal responsibility for the sake of future generations. The reckless spending is clearly unsustainable and I hope my colleagues across the aisle will realize the error of their ways before they drive the state off the fiscal cliff. They can start by cancelling the $730 million expansion to the State Office Building." |
