Rep. Zeleznikar Joins Legislation to Keep Peace Officers in the Workforce Saint Paul, MN — This week Representative Natalie Zeleznikar (R – Fredenberg Township) signed onto legislation that would help to incentivize State Patrol officers to stay in the law enforcement industry as they near retirement. HF 4553 makes changes to the State Patrol Retirement Plan by allowing reemployment without penalties to an officer's pension calculation. This would allow members of this retirement plan to rejoin the workforce and continue to use their expertise to keep our communities safe. “Our state patrol does an amazing job of keeping our state safe and they absolutely deserve the option to retire at the ages set in the current policy. This bill doesn’t change those but instead expands the choices officers have in how and when they intend to transition to retirement.” Said Rep. Zeleznikar of the bill. “We are seeing a drastic fall off in new officers coming into the field. Changing the incentives to keep our experienced and well-trained officers in the workforce addresses the needs of our communities and rewards those officers for their continued service.” ### |
