Rep. Kari Rehrauer Responds to MMB Budget Forecast

Saint Paul, Minn – Today, Minnesota Management and Budget released its February budget forecast. This forecast shows the budget outlook moving in the wrong direction compared to the forecast released last November. Donald Trump’s economic policies are impacting this forecast, with inflation expected to climb. Tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy and corporations only harm the regular working people of Minnesota and cuts to Medicaid are expected to bring additional negative impacts.

Representative Kari Rehrauer (DFL – Coon Rapids) released the following statement in response:

“Today’s forecast is making me and the people of my district extremely nervous what the future holds under Trump’s economy. Trump’s regressive economic policies have undermined consumer confidence and forced even more families to live paycheck to paycheck with less breathing room every month.

I hope today’s forecast makes House Republicans realize it’s time to stop wasting time playing political theatre on the House Floor with bills that won’t pass and start working with Democrats to craft a budget that benefits all of Minnesota.”

Instead of bringing down prices like they promised on the campaign trail, Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress are on the verge of enacting a sweeping tax cut for corporations and the ultra-wealthy, and they’re going to pay for it by slashing federal spending on health care for children, families, seniors, and people with disabilities. This will have dire consequences for the people of Minnesota and our state budget.
