Rep. Stier Comments on Chaos in Committee
St. Paul – Tuesday this week, a group of protesters interrupted the House Committee on Public Safety where they used a megaphone and shouted obscenities in the face of committee members, staff, and the invited attendees for roughly 20 minutes before the members and guests were instructed to clear the room. See incident here.
State Representative Terry Stier, a committee member in attendance said, “No matter how loud or disruptive they get, I will never be deterred from doing what’s right for Minnesotans.” He continued, “Obviously, the rule of law does not apply to everyone. They should be held accountable for their actions. It’s disappointing and sends the wrong message. Ask yourself, 'if I did that, would I go to jail?'”
The committee had planned to hear presentations from the Minnesota Sheriffs Association, the Minnesota Chief of Police Associations, and the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association but had to reschedule due to the interruption.
