Fabian Introduces Law Enforcement Memorial Bills
ST. PAUL, MN – Representative Dan Fabian, R-Roseau, introduced two bills Tuesday memorializing law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. The bills name segments of Highway 11 and 310 after Roseau Deputy Richard Magnuson and Patrol Inspector Robert Lobdell.
A veteran of World War I, Patrol Inspector Robert Lobdell was killed on Christmas Day in 1928, on Highway 11 about 4 miles from Roseau. He was shot as he attempted to place a suspect under arrest. Deputy Richard Magnuson had just started his law enforcement career when he was killed August 2, 1978. He had stopped a car that had run through a closed port of entry north of Roseau when he was killed by the driver.
“Deputy Magnuson and Patrol Inspector Lobdell gave their lives to keep us safe, and I am deeply moved by their sacrifice,” said Fabian. “They made the ultimate sacrifice, and that must be remembered. Deputy Magnuson and Patrol Inspector Lobdell are heroes and I want to make sure people know that.”
Agent in Charge Bob Tuttle of the U.S. Border Patrol in Roseau heard about Lobdell and Magnuson’s sacrifices and started working to ensure that everyone driving on that stretch of road was reminded of them.
“We can’t do enough to memorialize people like them,” said Agent in Charge Tuttle, of Patrol Inspector Lobdell and Deputy Magnuson. “Any way I can think of to keep them relevant and keep them in the public eye, I plan on doing it.”
