Neighbors,
As work into the real impacts of COVID-19 continues, I wanted to use our email as way to keep you informed about what is happening in Shakopee and how we can work together to stem the effects of this highly contagious disease.
Please let me know if there is anything you need.
Brad
FLUID All information here is very fluid and changing by the hour.
HOTLINE The COVID-19 Hotline is open from 7 am to 7 pm for all questions - 651-201-3920.
CONCERN I have concerns that we - as a society - are under-reacting to the severity of COVID-19. We have a responsibility to protect ourselves, our families, and those around us. Please diligently and seriously follow the MN Dept of Health guidelines for the foreseeable future:
- Stay home if you can.
- If you can't stay home, stay at least 6 feet from non-family members
- Wash your hands for 20 seconds before and after venturing out. And often in between.
- Avoid touching your face
- Cover coughs and sneezes
LOCALS Even with this concern, please continue to shop and patronize our local Shakopee businesses. Use appropriate cautions and follow MDH guidelines.
TESTING As of today, there are 54 souls in Minnesota that have tested positive for COVID-19. None are in Shakopee or Scott County. However, testing is currently inadequate to know the full extent of infected Minnesotans.
SCHOOLS Governor Walz has ordered all schools closed. Shakopee Schools are open Monday and Tuesday with busing available but they will not be following a regular schedule. Students are not required to attend.
DISTANCE LEARNING During the closure, schools will plan how to implement learning at home through technology and other methods to begin April 6 if necessary.
LIBRARIES Scott County is planning to keep libraries open.
LEGISLATURE We have cancelled all scheduled committee meetings this week and focusing solely on COVID-19-related issues.
CONTACT All Minnesota House personnel that can work from home are doing that this week. That means my office won't be answering phones (but can reply to voicemails). If you need something, please email me at rep.brad.tabke@house.mn.
ISSUES There are many things we can do to prepare for and respond to COVID-19. The Legislature is working currently on many issues. Email me if you have specific issues or concerns. I'll make sure you hear about what is happening and in front of us.
DISASTER Last week, we unanimously added $20 million to our disaster relief funds and $21 million to DHS for COVID-19 response.
ST FRANCIS Visitors are not allowed at St Francis without extenuating circumstances.
COMMUNITY CENTER The Community Center is open but Senior Lounge, Kids Cove Pool, and the indoor playground are closed.
THANK YOU Thank you to our doctors, nurses, cashiers, custodians, teachers, school para-professionals, and everyone who must continue working!
