Rep. Tabke caps 2023 Legislative Session with vote to deliver infrastructure investments for Shakopee

Monday, May 22, 2023

St. Paul, MN - Today, on the last day of the 2023 Legislative Session, the Minnesota House passed a bipartisan package of legislation (HF669 and HF670) investing in jobs and infrastructure projects throughout the state. State Representative Brad Tabke (DFL - Shakopee), who voted for the bills, secured investments for local projects in Shakopee and the surrounding communities.

“This has been a great session for Shakopee, with generational investments in our schools, transportation, public safety, environment, the largest tax cut in state history, and so much more,” said Rep. Tabke. “It’s fitting that we’re capping our accomplishments with direct investments in our community, including funds to protect our infrastructure by reinforcing the bank of the Minnesota River and improving local roads.”

The package of legislation delivers $8.26 million to the City of Shakopee for riverbank stabilization, reinforcing the area along the Minnesota River after years of extraordinary storms and erosion, and an additional $2.75 million along the Eden Prairie side of the river. The bills also include $500,000 to Scott County for public water access improvement, $18.4 million for infrastructure updates to the Minnesota Correctional Facility in Shakopee, and $4 million along Merriam Junction Trail to prepare the riverbank for a bicycle and pedestrian bridge to downtown Carver.

Other notable investments for Shakopee passed in the final days of session include over $9 million for renovating the Highway 169-282 interchange in the Transportation Budget, and $1.885 million from the Tax Bill for public safety.

Having passed both the House and Senate, the bills now head to Governor Walz for his anticipated signature. Video of today’s floor debate can be found on the House Public Information YouTube channel
