Friends and neighbors, I hope you were able to get outside and enjoy some of the wonderful spring weather last weekend. Here at the Capitol, we’ve been busy passing policy packages to benefit Minnesota families across the state. We passed policies to protect victims of crime, open doors for more special education teachers, and preserve the integrity of our elections while making them more accessible - and that’s just the briefest of previews of what we voted on. Last week, we also passed a labor bill that includes provisions to enhance worker protections, strengthen the minimum wage, ban shadow non-competes, increase pay transparency, and more. We also passed a Human Services package that offers resources and support to our most vulnerable Minnesotans. This was a huge win for disability services and will make a major positive impact on families all across Minnesota.
Cannabis Listening Info SessionJoin me this Saturday, April 20th for a Cannabis Licensing Info Session, featuring folks from the Office of Cannabis Management and advocates from HBCI to discuss the new cannabis laws and how Minnesotans can prepare to apply for licensing.
Somali Day on the HillTuesday was Somali Day at the Capitol. I want to thank all of the Somali Minnesotans who made the trip to Saint Paul to advocate for our communities. Thank you for inviting me to be a part of it!
Expanding Insurance to Cover Prosthetics & WigsDFLers are laser focused on making sure all Minnesotans can work, go to school, run errands and afford their lives with dignity. Two bills that are advancing would require insurance companies to cover the costs of wigs for people undergoing cancer treatment, and the costs for prosthetics for those who need them. As families work through a new transition in their lives or navigate a new diagnosis or health challenge, the last thing they should have to worry about is their financial security. These are common sense proposals I support, and will advocate for as we continue to pass legislation that puts Minnesotans first.
Join a State Board, Council, or Committee! The Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State recently released a notice of vacancies for various state boards, councils and committees that are accepting applications. Any Minnesotans interested in public service are encouraged to apply! There are positions for people from all backgrounds and professions, from cosmetologists to engineers. You can find the full list of vacancies here.
