ST. PAUL, MN – Representative Brian Pfarr is protecting children by making school buses safer. Pfarr is sponsoring legislation that would require all school buses to be equipped with stop-signal arm extensions, pre-warning flashing amber lights and flashing red signals. The arm extension must be at least six feet long. Additionally, Pfarr is supporting school bus safety education by sponsoring legislation to appropriate $50,000 in fiscal year 2022 for an educational awareness campaign.
This campaign would focus on informing vehicle drivers about child safety when boarding and unloading from a school bus, and the laws when encountering a stopped school bus. “We place our trust in other drivers on the road when our children are on the school bus,” Pfarr said. “We need proper safety measures on the bus, as well as continuously educating the public on the proper rules when they encounter a school bus on the road.”
