Neighbors,
I want to begin by extending my congratulations to my friend, Le Sueur Police Chief Bruce Kelly, on his retirement. If you see him, please congratulate him on a retirement well-earned!
This week, the budget forecast was released. Minnesota has a $9.25 billion surplus. This is more evidence that we have been overtaxed for way too long. It is time we use that money to end the social security tax, refill our unemployment trust fund and return the rest of those dollars to you – the taxpayer!
I also submitted two pieces of legislation to make our children safer. We’ve all seen the videos, or maybe you have watched it happen yourself: you are stopped behind a school bus and some driver in a hurry goes around the bus.
This is unacceptable and could cause harm or death to a child. I introduced two bills, one for six-foot long stop arms on all school buses, and one for money to provide educational awareness for motorists. The educational piece will tell drivers the rules and their responsibilities when approaching a school bus.
These are just a few things I am doing to create a safer Minnesota. Some of my fellow House members are sponsoring a public safety proposal. This proposal would help prevent crime, recruit more law enforcement and hold our justice system accountable. I stand by their efforts.
As always, I am here to help you. If I can do anything for you, please reach out.
