ST. PAUL – State Representative Bjorn Olson (R-Elmore) said he joins the thousands across our state and nation who are morning the loss of Elmore native Walter Mondale.
“Walter Mondale was the pride of his hometown of Elmore and a legend in Minnesota politics, having served as Minnesota Attorney General, U.S. Senator, Vice President, and more,” Olson said. “You didn't have to agree with Vice President Mondale's politics to admire his decency, love for family, and passion for the state of Minnesota.”
Olson said he and the former vice president share a unique bit of history, as Olson currently lives in the same Elmore house where Mondale grew up.
In 2013, the City of Elmore celebrated its 150th anniversary, and Mondale traveled back to his hometown to celebrate the historic event. While there, Mondale stopped by his childhood home, and Olson invited him in. Olson said he and the former vice president had a great visit, and learned that Mondale actually held his presidential kick-off event from what is currently his back porch.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the Mondale family and all his loved ones as we mourn the loss of one of Minnesota's greatest,” Olson concluded.
