Hello from the State Capitol,
We’ve been hard at work at the Capitol as committees wrap up and key legislative deadlines are reached. Policy bills are moving forward, and finance bills are now making their way through the process as we focus on addressing Minnesota’s budget situation.
One of the most significant challenges we’re facing is fixing the financial mess left behind after Democrats spent the state’s historic $18 billion surplus, raised taxes by $10 billion, and expanded government spending by $20 billion—a 40% increase in just one year. The result? A projected $6 billion deficit. House Republicans are stepping in to begin the hard work of correcting course. While it won’t be an overnight fix, we’re committed to restoring fiscal discipline and protecting taxpayers from the consequences of irresponsible budgeting.
I also had the opportunity to visit Federal Ammunition in Anoka this week a long standing Minnesota manufacturer that employs over 1,400 people and plays a vital role in both our economy and our nation’s defense industry. It was great to see firsthand the work being done there and to hear directly from employees and leadership about the importance of supporting local manufacturing and protecting Second Amendment rights.
