REP. OLSON REVIEWS FINAL DAYS OF 2022 LEGISLATIVE SESSION

Friday, May 27, 2022

ST. PAUL – May 23 marked the final day of the 2022 legislative session, and State Representative Bjorn Olson (R-Fairmont) said a solution on how to allocate Minnesota’s projected budget surplus did not make it to the House floor.

“The House majority wanted to increase spending by billions of dollars in exchange for some tax relief provisions,” Olson said. “With prices skyrocketing on almost everything, Minnesotans deserve as much tax relief as possible, and it’s disappointing that proposal was held hostage.”

Olson said the state’s two-year budget was set by the legislature last year, so no state government spending was necessary this session.

If Minnesota’s economy holds steady, Olson said the projected surplus must be utilized next year.

“With any luck, Minnesota will remain in a good financial place,” Olson said. “If that’s the case, House Republicans stand ready to help Minnesotans who are struggling to pay their bills with a historic, and permanent, tax relief package, and we will pass it with no spending strings attached.”
