Dear Neighbors,
A reminder that you are invited to a 2nd Amendment town hall meeting tomorrow, March 18th in Osakis at the Osakis Community Center.
The event is set to begin at 2:00 PM and I will be joined by local state representatives, senators, and Todd County Sheriff, Michael Allen. Please join us to discuss the series of anti-gun bills that are moving through the legislature and what you can do to defend your 2nd Amendment rights.
I hope to see you there.
A bill I am authoring received a hearing yesterday in the House Human Services Finance Committee. House File 1845 has bipartisan support and would provide grant funding to Wellness in the Woods, a local organization dedicated to improving access to mental health care and substance use recovery.
All of us know someone that has been impacted by the mental health and substance abuse crisis that has spread across Minnesota. Sadly, access to mental health and addiction recovery services are not as widely available in rural Minnesota as they are in the Twin Cities. That’s why it is critically important that we support local organizations like Wellness in the Woods that provide this vital service to our area.
Better access to mental health services means that our neighbors and friends that are struggling can get the help they need—while also helping ease the burden on local law enforcement and hospitals who have been filling in the gaps on these issues for years.
Following the hearing, the bill was laid over for possible inclusion in the Health and Human Services omnibus bill. Stay tuned for more on this.
As always, it is critical that you communicate to me any thoughts, questions, or concerns you may have. Please never hesitate to reach out to me whether it’s via phone or email. I can be reached at 651-296-4293 or via email at rep.mike.wiener@house.mn.gov. It would be an honor to speak with you.
Until next time, have a great weekend,
Mike
