Dear Neighbors,
A huge thank you to everyone that came out to our 2nd Amendment town hall in Verndale last weekend! We had more than 200 folks show up to share their thoughts, questions, and concerns regarding the rights of law-abiding citizens to own a firearm.
I’d also like to specifically thank Don and Joanne Line, Lisa Murphy, Denny Bure, and Vicky Thompson for the time and energy they poured into making this event so successful. Your hard work and ability to get the word out about the meeting is a huge reason behind the turnout. Thanks for all you do!
We’re planning another 2nd Amendment town hall for April 4th at the VFW in Little Falls from 7:00-9:00 PM. Hope to see you there.
Those of us in our neck of the woods understand the important role that nursing homes play in our rural communities. Sadly, many nursing homes are closing around Minnesota because they can’t afford to stay open. In fact, there are counties in Minnesota that have only one nursing home.
In many areas, families are waiting weeks and looking up to four hours away just to find a safe place for their loved ones. Unfortunately, Gov. Walz and Democrats are doing little in their budget proposal to save our rural nursing homes.
It’s the Legislature’s job to set the rates that nursing homes receive to hire and pay staff, care for residents, and cover their bills. They need our help today if we want them around to care for our seniors tomorrow.
That’s why it was so good to see hundreds of nursing home employees, administrators, and advocates at the capitol in St. Paul on Thursday to rally in support of the amazing work and service they provide our communities.
As we head into the final weeks of this year’s legislative session, I will do what I can to make sure that we’re saving our rural nursing homes.
I continue to monitor the legalized cannabis bill that is making its way through the legislative process. This is legislation that I have serious concerns about as it was heard in the Taxes Committee yesterday. Please be sure to reach out to me to share your thoughts on this issue.
Next week I will be meeting with superintendents from our local school boards. With some of the unfunded mandates and other policies in the Democrats’ education omnibus bill, I am looking forward to getting their feedback on these bills and what we can do to work together to make sure students in our area receive the best educational experience possible.
As always, it is critical that you communicate to me any thoughts, questions, or concerns you may have. Please never hesitate to reach out to me whether it’s via phone or email. I can be reached at 651-296-4293 or via email at rep.mike.wiener@house.mn.gov. It would be an honor to speak with you.
Until next time, have a great weekend,
Mike
