Dear Neighbors,
Another week is in the books here in St. Paul and my work on behalf of our communities and region continues. Thank you for your support!
Many businesses across the Northland depend on cold temperatures and seasonal snowfall during the winter. That’s why this year’s unseasonably warm winter and drought have caused so much pain and hardship for these businesses.
Thankfully, federal funding has been made available for these businesses to help fill in the gaps of lost revenue.
I encourage any local business owners who have been impacted to visit this link to learn more about eligibility and to apply.
I’ve heard from lots of local folks in recent weeks who are concerned about a proposal that would turn Minnesota into a “sanctuary state”. This bill, if it were to become law, would ban state and local law enforcement agencies from cooperating with federal immigration authorities—effectively turning Minnesota into a magnet for illegal immigration.
I am a strong “NO” on this proposal and have been working hard to make sure it doesn’t see the light of day. Based on my conversations around the area and the number of constituents that have proactively reached out to my office opposing this bill, it sounds like most of you agree with me on this issue.
Local and regional social services are already strained. Adding more demand to this system would only make things worse.
Instead of flouting federal immigration law, Minnesota should work with federal authorities to secure our borders and stop the flow of fentanyl and human trafficking that is causing so much pain in Minnesota.
We had many visitors and events this week in St. Paul. Thank you all for visiting and advocating on behalf of the issues that are most important to you!
Local officials from Ely visited this week to discuss issues facing the city and how we can continue working together to strengthen the community.
Thanks to everyone who came out to the wolf management meeting in Embarrass that was hosted by Hunters 4 Hunters. I share your passion on this issue and will continue working to manage our wolf population.
I attended a Braver Angels event at St. Thomas where we discussed ways to bring people together and restore goodwill and respect to our political discourse.
Myself and Sen. Hauschild met with local trappers who made the drive down to St. Paul this week.
Superintendents from several school districts across the Northland visited my office this week to discuss education policies and how we can keep our school strong.
The RAMS delegation was in town this week, it is always good to meet with them about how we can keep the Iron Range strong.
Minnesota North president Michael Raich was in town to discuss Higher Education issues and supporting Minnesota North Colleges. Sen. Rob Farnsworth and I enjoyed breakfast with President Raich and others at St. Paul College.
I attended the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe Annual Reception this week in St. Paul.
Please be sure to reach out to me or my office if you have any questions, or comments, or would like to discuss your priorities. You can call me at 651-296-2190 or at rep.roger.skraba@house.mn.gov.
Have a great day!
