Dear Friends, With a heart full of gratitude, I am honored to officially serve as your State Representative for House District 38A. Representing the vibrant and diverse communities of Brooklyn Park and Osseo is both a privilege and a responsibility that I take to heart every single day. For those I’ve yet to meet, my name is Huldah Momanyi Hiltsley, and I’m proud to reintroduce myself and my family. My husband Bart and I are homeowners here in Brooklyn Park, where we are raising our two children, Jaydah Rae and Jordan Philip. Like many of you, we are deeply invested in the well-being of our community—our home, our schools, and our shared future. Over the summer and fall, I had the joy of meeting so many of you at your doors, at community events, and during gatherings around the district. Hearing your stories, learning about your hopes, and understanding your concerns has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. Each of these conversations reminded me why this work is so important and why our collective voice is the key to progress. From the moment I took the oath of office, I’ve hit the ground running to ensure your voice is heard. I’ve been meeting with constituents, advocates, city and county leaders, educators, and many others who share a commitment to the well-being of our community. These conversations are vital in shaping the policies and decisions that will impact our district and our state in advocating for quality education, ensuring public safety, expanding access to healthcare, creating opportunities and much more. It's important to me that every community across Minnesota has a voice, and that everyone is represented within our democracy. This last November, Minnesota voters elected an equal number of Republican and Democratic state representatives. Since then, leaders on both sides have been working out a compromise where there is shared, equal power. The last offer made to Republicans would grant them control of the House until a special election taking place at the end of the month was resolved. As part of the proposal, should Democrats retain this vacant seat, we would then return to co-governance. It is unfortunate that House Republicans have chosen to walk away from the negotiating table and are attempting an illegitimate power grab that could have significant long-term consequences for our democracy and our community. I am hopeful that a co-governing agreement can be restored. You can read more about the ever evolving situation in Speaker-Designate Melissa Hortman’s press statement from Thursday, here. We’re stronger when we work together. That’s why my colleagues and I announced a sound policy agenda to keep Minnesotans moving forward by lowering costs in areas like child care, health care, and housing. You can find more details of the legislative proposals here.
