Friends,
The last few weeks have been dedicated to putting together the budget for the next two years. The House and Senate got to work early and made efficient use of session to come to joint targets weeks before the end of session. Governor Dayton's administration declined to engage in the process of creating these budget targets until this week. While we are still ahead of schedule, we need Governor Dayton to engage in good faith negotiations for the benefit of all Minnesotans. I'll keep you informed of these negotiations as they move forward. Read the rest of my update below and have a great week!

$10 Million towards Veterans Home
The State Government Finance Conference Committee Report, the joint bill between the House & Senate, included $10 million in funding for veterans facilities to operate in underserved regions of Minnesota, with the to be constructed Bemidji facility being a possible recipient. Rep. Matt Bliss & I are co-authors on HF1109 which would utilized bonding funds for the construction of the veterans homes. The funding included in the House and Senate Conference Committee would utilize general fund dollars to potentially fund each of the proposed veterans homes.
I’m glad the House and Senate were able to come to an agreement to fund these badly needed veterans facilities. Now it’s up to Governor Dayton to show he also recognizes the importance of prioritizing veterans who live in Greater Minnesota and come to a final agreement that includes this funding. This facility will serve veterans from sixteen Northern Minnesota counties, including four reservations. All of these veterans have earned and deserve the best care we can give them.

Last weekend I was able to stop by the Govnick Fire Department fundraiser. It was a fun time with a great group of people serving their community.
