Friends,
We've had a busy couple weeks here in St. Paul, filled with more bad ideas than you can shake a stick at. House Democrats have joined Governor Walz in proposing billions in new taxes, despite our billion dollar surplus. Their answer to everything seems to be more taxes. Read about a few other things they're up to below and have a great week.
Democrats Play Games with Public Safety Bill
Democrats amended two gun control bills (HF8 and HF9) into the Public Safety Omnibus, reversing their longtime opposition to controversial policy being included in budget bills. Senate Majority Leader Gazelka has made clear time and again the bills will not be considered if they are jammed into omnibus bills, and must pass standalone if they are to be considered for hearings.
Democrats know their gun control bills have bipartisan opposition and are hiding them in omnibus bills rather than bringing them to the floor up-or-down votes. Each of these proposals is bad enough on their own, but now they are attaching them to funding for our public safety programs in order to get Democrats on the fence about the gun-grabbing proposals to vote for them. This shows just how bad the bills are - even their fellow Democrats don't want to vote for them, much less a single Republican.
Line 3
Last Thursday, we tried to put an end to the government suing itself in order to slow down the Line 3 Project. This is personal for my hometown and communities across Northern Minnesota. Let's get this done! Watch the video below for my remarks on the topic.
