Friends,
This week, I am disappointed that the House DFL held the Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund legislation hostage and it did not get passed. This was a bill that the governor supported along with the Senate and House Republicans. Unfortunately, despite several asks from House Republicans, Democrats refused to hear the bill and the deadline has now lapsed. Minnesota job creators will now pay the price for this and will have to endure six years of higher taxes.
As far as legislation goes, I authored a bill for Park Rapids. This bill would allow for local tax revenue to be used for improvements to some of our streets and shipping centers and in areas near Park Rapids High School and our downtown business district. I also authored the law enforcement grant program. This program would provide $1,500 for a student to enroll in at least nine credits of a law enforcement associate degree program and attends an eligible institution. As a former law enforcement officer, I know the power of education and how any assistance can help young folks who want to make a difference.
I am thankful for your support as we move through session. God Bless.
